Sophia Learning offers free college level courses to high school juniors and seniors to help them plan their futures
Online, self-paced learning platform Sophia has launched a new summer program, offering 100,000 rising high school juniors and seniors free access to six college-level courses, helping them explore their interests.

Available from June 2 until July 31, high school students can sign up for 60 days of free access, helping them to plan for their futures, risk-free. Students can potentially earn college credit that can be transferred and make better informed choices about their future.
Students can access six college-level courses through Sophia:
College Readiness
College Algebra
Human Biology
Human Biology
Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction to Nutrition
Introduction to Business
The courses are completely online, self–paced and allow students to study at any time. Credits from completed courses can be transferred to more than 80 partner colleges and universities.
The summer program is part of wider efforts to expand access to affordable college-level courses and comes at a pivotal time for many Gen Z students.
Sophia recently commissioned a survey of 1,005 high school juniors and seniors. It found that more than two-thirds (72 percent) of students feel they need to go to college in order to be “successful,” but 51 percent desire more time to help them decide on a major.
Money was also a concern, with 84 percent of students agreeing that a college degree is worth the investment, but 73 percent said they worry about being able to afford tuition.
Two-thirds (66 percent) of students report that taking college-level courses in high school that could earn them credit would reduce some of their college-related concerns.
“Preparing for college is an exciting milestone, but it can also come with a lot of uncertainty and worry,” says Shawna Thayer, Ph.D. CEO at Sophia Learning. “At Sophia we believe everyone should have access to affordable college-level courses. Sophia’s summer program expands that access to give more students the opportunity to experience real college courses early, helping them discover their passions and start college feeling confident and prepared, all without the pressure or cost.”
