OpenAI’s Japan Economic Blueprint identifies education as a key route to ensuring AI supports broad-based growth

The Japan Economic Blueprint identifies three pillars for ensuring that AI becomes a driver for growth: Inclusive access to AI; Strategic infrastructure investment; and education and lifelong learning.
OpenAI says it plans to promote school education to enable the next generation of individuals to lead an AI-driven society and support lifelong learning and reskilling for everyone.
The blueprint argues that AI can transform the education system, particularly in higher education with the use of tools such as ChatGPT Edu and ChatGPT Study Mode.
It also cautions that the transformation of education requires “careful consideration” around issues such as an overdependence on AI potentially reducing thinking skills and the accuracy of information provided by AI tools.
OpenAI says that people who can skilfully use AI are the most important asset in the AI era, leading it to invest in education methods at all levels and launch a large-scale reskilling initiative to support those whose jobs will be transformed by the technology.
Kazuya Okubo, Head of Policy and Partnerships at OpenAI, says: “Working together with Japan’s world-class researchers, policymakers, companies, and educators, we believe AI can help build a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Japan.
“From accelerating scientific and industrial innovation to improving healthcare, education, and public services, we see a powerful opportunity to shape a better future together.”
