OpenAI expands ChatGPT team with new Chief of Staff role to support product growth

OpenAI is hiring a Chief of Staff to the Head of ChatGPT, a role focused on scaling operations, strategy, and leadership as the company continues to grow its AI-powered products.

OpenAI is recruiting a Chief of Staff to join the ChatGPT product team, according to a LinkedIn post from Nick Turley, Head of ChatGPT. The position will support the product leadership team in scaling operations and driving alignment across the fast-growing organization.

Turley wrote: “ChatGPT is growing fast, and we’re looking for a Chief of Staff — someone who loves bringing structure to complexity, helping teams focus on what matters most, and scaling impact as we build the future of AI products.”

The role, based in San Francisco, will report directly to the Head of ChatGPT and focus on strategic operations, cross-functional coordination, and leadership enablement. Candidates are expected to have at least seven years of experience in product strategy, operations, or consulting within high-growth technology companies.

Strategic operations and cross-functional leadership

According to the job listing, the Chief of Staff will act as a “strategic operator and force multiplier,” helping streamline communication between product, engineering, research, marketing, and design teams. Responsibilities include refining ChatGPT’s operating cadence, managing quarterly planning and OKRs, and overseeing cross-functional initiatives.

The successful candidate will also prepare briefing materials, synthesize data for decision-making, and manage special projects designed to enhance organizational efficiency. The company describes the position as “high-visibility and high-impact,” blending strategy and execution to ensure the ChatGPT team stays focused on key priorities.

In his post, Turley added that OpenAI is seeking “someone A++” and encouraged referrals, emphasizing the importance of structured, mission-driven leadership as ChatGPT continues to evolve.
