New global report suggests student assessments could be improved with the use of AI

A new report from the Digital Education Council, in partnership with publisher and assessment provider Pearson, has found that most faculty believe student assessment could be improved with the use of AI.

As AI is transforming higher education, 54 percent of faculty members said that current assessments require significant change and one in every two members said assignments should be redesigned to be more AI-resistant.

The report includes 14 methodologies to help educators reimagine course-based projects, presentations, essays, and exams to support workplace-ready AI fluency. It aims to help educators create assessments that simulate the types of decisions and collaborations students will face in the workplace.

“As a trusted partner to educators and employers worldwide, Pearson is enhancing assessments to meet a growing demand in the age of AI. This report offers a framework that will help students build and prove proficiency needed to enter the workforce and close the global skills gap,” says Ebrahim Mathews, Senior Vice President of Pearson International Higher Education.

The report also suggests assessments should be AI-resilient rather than relying on student compliance, ensuring that core learning outcomes cannot be easily outsourced to AI.

“Education providers around the world are calling for practical changes they can make today to their teaching and assessment. They can’t wait, because AI is in their classrooms here and now,” explains DannyBielik, President of the Digital Education Council.

RTIH AI in Retail Awards

Our sister title, RTIH, organiser of the industry leading RTIH Innovation Awards, proudly brings you the first edition of the RTIH AI in Retail Awards, which is now open for entries.

As we witness a digital transformation revolution across all channels, AI tools are reshaping the omnichannel game, from personalising customer experiences to optimising inventory, uncovering insights into consumer behaviour, and enhancing the human element of retailers' businesses.

With 2025 set to be the year when AI and especially gen AI shake off the ‘heavily hyped’ tag and become embedded in retail business processes, our newly launched awards celebrate global technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and the resulting benefits for retailers, shoppers and employees.

Our 2025 winners will be those companies who not only recognise the potential of AI, but also make it usable in everyday work - resulting in more efficiency and innovation in all areas.

Winners will be announced at an evening event at The Barbican in Central London on Wednesday, 3rd September.
