Lloyds Banking Group and Young Professionals offers students a behind-the-scenes look at in-house law

A two-day virtual event gave students across the UK and Ireland an inside look at in-house legal careers with one of the UK’s largest financial institutions.

Young Professionals, a student career network, partnered with Lloyds Banking Group this week to deliver a two-day virtual event focused on in-house legal careers. The sessions reached over 3,000 students from the UK and Ireland.

The program included talks from members of the Lloyds legal team, covering their day-to-day roles, personal career routes, and how legal departments operate inside large financial institutions. The aim was to highlight in-house legal work as a viable alternative to private practice, an area often less familiar to students.

Focus on real-life legal practice

The sessions addressed topics such as how legal teams support business strategy, the range of roles available in-house, and the core skills needed. The format also included case studies and practical advice for those considering a legal career.

Russell Mascarenhas, senior competition lawyer at Lloyds Banking Group, says: “We’re delighted to have been invited by Young Professionals to engage almost 3,000 ambitious students from across the UK and beyond through their insights programme. By offering a real look into legal careers at our organisation, we’re helping break down barriers, challenge misconceptions, and support a more diverse future for the legal profession—right at the heart of our mission of helping Britain prosper.”
