Innovation at Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) has announced that Jamal Atif will be its new Vice-President of Research and Innovation.

IP Paris says Atif will be tasked with defining and steering the institution’s research and innovation strategy, with a view to further enhancing its scientific and technological excellence.

The news follows a new governance structure announced in 2024 aiming to support the development of IP Paris.

"The appointment of Jamal Atif as Vice-President Research and Innovation marks a major step forward in the strategic development of IP Paris. His first-rate scientific expertise, his experience in leading national projects in artificial intelligence and his ambitious vision for interdisciplinary research will enable our Institute to strengthen its excellence, attract the best talent and respond to the major societal challenges of our time," comments Thierry Coulhon, President of IP Paris.

Atif has served as Vice President at Université Paris Dauphine since 2020 and was previously Deputy Director of the Prairie-Psai AI cluster, responsible for creating the Paris School of AI within PSL.

Focusing on machine learning, algorithmic fairness, and model security, Atif has been published in more than 120 international publications and conferences. He has also supervised more than 15 doctoral students and leads the Machine Intelligence and Learning research team.

Atif adds: “ I am honoured to be joining IP Paris and contributing to its ambition to become an institute of scientific and technological excellence. My aim is to create the conditions that will enable our researchers to produce research at the highest level and develop disruptive innovation to serve society.”
