Hofstra University launches campuswide license for ChatGPT Edu following a successful pilot
Hofstra University, a private university in New York State, has announced it has acquired a campuswide license for ChatGPT Edu.

The university says it hopes the license will help students become proficient in using AI tools, preparing them for future job roles. The announcement follows a successful pilot scheme held earlier this year.
Designed specifically for educational institutions, ChatGPT Edu offers a secure version of ChatGPT and its owner OpenAI will not train its large language models on the data Hofstra users provide to the University’s ChatGPT Edu workspace.
Hofstra users will also be given higher usage limits than the standard ChatGPT free plan and expanded access to OpenAI’s most advanced models.
“We are making ChatGPT Edu available to the Hofstra community as part of the learning experience at Hofstra. This cutting-edge technology is now ubiquitous, and we must help students learn how to utilize it as an educational tool and in preparation for their careers,” says Hofstra’s President Susan Poser.
“We’re excited to see Hofstra create an AI-native campus environment where everyone can benefit from AI and no one is left behind,” adds Leah Belsky, Vice President of Education at OpenAI. “Their campuswide rollout of ChatGPT Edu gives all students the opportunity to build AI literacy and carry those skills into the evolving workforce.”
