Google takes Gemini educator training on UK roadshow

The free in-person program will cover lesson planning, assessment, administrative tasks and responsible AI use, with stops confirmed in Leeds, Coventry, Newcastle, Bristol, Nottingham and Portsmouth

Google for Education’s Gemini Roadshow will bring in-person AI training to educators across multiple UK regions

Google for Education is taking its Gemini training directly to educators across England through a new series of free, full-day regional events focused on using generative AI in teaching and school operations.

The Gemini Roadshow will provide hands-on training with Gemini, Gemini Notebook and Google Workspace Studio, alongside guidance on areas including lesson planning, assessments, administrative work and responsible AI use with students.

Confirmed events begin in Leeds on October 5, followed by Coventry on October 22, Newcastle on November 11 and Bristol on November 18. The roadshow then moves to Nottingham on February 2, 2027 and Portsmouth on March 2, with dates for Blackburn and Peterborough still to be confirmed.

Anu Manthri, who works on Gemini Education at Google, said on LinkedIn that the program will include “hands on Gemini training and a chance to get certified on Google Educator Series AI training.”

She added that Google intends the roadshow to reach regions aligned with the Department for Education’s Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence, or RISE, structure.

Training focuses on everyday classroom and school tasks

The sessions are designed for teachers, lecturers, senior leaders, digital leads and other education professionals across the UK and Ireland.

Google says the workshops will cover ways to use Gemini for tasks such as streamlining marking, emails and reporting, developing adaptable lesson plans and supporting safe and responsible student use of AI.

Participants will also work on implementation and governance, with the roadshow intended to help schools think about how Gemini could be introduced and scaled rather than focusing solely on individual prompts or demonstrations.

Anna Artemyeva of Google for Education said on LinkedIn that the events are designed to provide “hands-on, free, in-person training sessions across the country” and help educators integrate generative AI into day-to-day teaching.

The program also includes opportunities to discuss practical examples and questions around AI use in education.

Certification and online options

Educators unable to attend an in-person stop can access several online alternatives.

Google is running monthly live Gemini training, while separate virtual staff twilight sessions are scheduled from 3:30pm to 5pm on October 5, 6, 7 and 8.

The Gemini Academy Certification program offers a 90-minute virtual session combining training with time to complete the Gemini Certification for Educators exam.

The first hour covers practical uses of Gemini in schools, including educational prompting, schemes of work, adapting resources and ethical guidance. The final 30 minutes are reserved for taking the certification exam, with facilitators available to help with technical issues.

Educators can also complete AI Educator Units independently.

The currently published in-person schedule lists Leeds, Coventry, Newcastle, Bristol, Nottingham, Portsmouth, Blackburn and Peterborough, with registration available for the confirmed dates and interest forms open for the two locations awaiting dates.
