Google has partnered with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) and Miami Dade College (MDC) to expand the use of Gemini for Education and related training programs across the district.

The initiative, shared by Austin Swift, Google Sales Manager, on LinkedIn and detailed in a company blog, is part of a broader plan to strengthen digital and workforce skills in education.

As part of the rollout, 100,000 high school students will gain access to Gemini for Education, while 18,000 teachers will complete Google’s Generative AI for Educators course and Gemini Academy certifications.

Ben Gomes, Chief Technologist for Learning and Sustainability at Google, says the company is working with local partners to “develop and pilot AI-powered solutions to support both learning outcomes and operational efficiency.”

District pilots explore personalized learning

M-DCPS will test several new AI models aimed at improving personalized learning and streamlining administrative work. One pilot focuses on creating a digital “learning wallet” that tracks individual progress and tailors lessons accordingly. Another will explore how AI can assist administrators in interpreting data to improve decision-making.

Google is also collaborating with TED-Ed, Education Through Music, and YouTube artists to deliver new music education resources for grades 6–12. The materials, built using Gemini Canvas, are designed to extend arts learning opportunities through interactive digital content.

Dr. Jose L. Dotres, Superintendent at M-DCPS, says, “Students learn in classrooms, they learn online, they learn in the community, and with Google’s Gemini, our students now have an additional tool to safely and responsibly enrich, accelerate, and enhance their world of learning.”

College partnership supports AI workforce development

The collaboration also includes new workforce training initiatives led by Miami Dade College, which is part of the Google AI for Education Accelerator. The college will provide free access to AI training and professional certificates supported by Google Cloud tools.

Google is contributing $2 million to the National Applied AI Consortium (NAAIC) to help expand mentorship programs across 30 community colleges in 20 states. MDC will also adopt Google Skills, a unified platform that brings together more than 3,000 AI-related courses and labs developed by Google teams including DeepMind and Grow with Google.

Dr. Madeline Pumariega, President at Miami Dade College, says, “We are proud to be leading the charge to ensure AI education is accessible to all. This transformative funding from Google marks a major milestone in MDC’s ongoing mission to democratize AI training and empower educators to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow.”
