Education and workplace technology specialist Everway brings in Rick Medlock as Chairman
Everway, an education and workplace technology company, has announced the appointment of Rick Medlock as Chairman of the Board.
Everway has been an investment since 2020 for Five Arrows, the alternative assets arm of Rothschild & Co, and Medlock's appointment follows the acquisitions of TeachTown, SpedTrack, Matchware and Embrace Education. The company now serves a global customer base across K–12, higher education and the workplace through its platform of education and workforce solutions.
Medlock is a non-executive director and strategic advisor with leadership experience across public markets and private equity backed businesses, particularly in technology and business services. His appointment follows Jill Popelka signing on as Chief Executive Officer in July. Everway founder and current Chairman, Martin McKay, will move into the role of Vice Chairman.
Medlock was most recently Chief Financial Officer at Worldpay until its merger with Vantiv, having joined from Misys where he also served as CFO, and prior roles as CFO of Inmarsat (2004–2013) and NDS Group. He has previously served on the board of listed companies including Deliveroo, Smith+Nephew, Datatec, Sophos, Edwards Vacuum and Thus. Medlock also currently chairs Agilio Software, a healthcare services software company as well as the advisory board of STJ Advisors, and advises SilverTree Equity.
He comments: "I'm delighted to be joining Everway at such a pivotal moment in its journey. This is a company with a clear and compelling mission, a strong product set, and growing market positions across the world. I look forward to working with Jill, the board and the wider Everway team as they build on what has already been achieved and extend Everway's impact for the educators, learners and employees who rely on its technology every day."
Sacha Oshry, Partner at Five Arrows, says: "We are delighted to welcome Rick to the board: he brings exactly the depth of governance and strategic experience Everway needs as it consolidates its product portfolio and builds on its market-leading position.”
“He has an outstanding record of chairing and advising technology and business services companies through periods of significant growth and transformation, both in public markets and under private equity ownership, including prior experience with Five Arrows. Rick brings highly complementary skills to what is already a strong board and we look forward to working alongside him to help deliver Everway's future success."
2026 RTIH Innovation Awards
Workplace technology will be a key focus area at our sister title RTIH’s 2026 Innovation Awards.
The awards are now open for entries and celebrate global retail technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world.
Our winners will be revealed at the 2026 RTIH Innovation Awards Ceremony, taking place at The HAC in Central London on Wednesday, 4th November.
Check out the 2025 winners here.
RTIH’s 2025 hall of fame entrants were revealed during a sold out event which took place at The HAC on 16th October and consisted of a drinks reception, three course meal, and awards ceremony presided over by award winning comedian, actress and writer Tiff Stevenson.
In his welcome speech, Scott Thompson, Founder and Editor, RTIH, said: “This is the awards’ fifth year as a physical event. We started off with just 30 people at the South Place Hotel not far from here, then moved to London Bridge Hotel, then The Barbican, and last year RIBA’s HQ in the West End.”
“But I’m conscious of the fact that, to quote the legend that is Taylor Swift, You’re only as hot as your last hit, baby. So, this year we’ve moved to our biggest venue yet, and also pulled in our largest number of entries to date and broken attendance records.”
He added: “This year’s submissions have without doubt been our best yet. To quote one of the judges: The examples of innovative developments across both traditional and digital retail spaces were truly remarkable.”
