Eagle Eye Networks launches AI-enabled tool to alert schools when firearms are visible on site

Eagle Eye Networks has announced the launch of Eagle Eye Gun Detection, an AI-enabled tool that alerts schools to the presence of a visible firearm.

Eagle Eye Networks says the early detection of a firearm can provide schools with valuable time to take action and potentially save lives in the event of a crisis.

Rapid Edge AI continuously monitors footage from security cameras for potential weapons. If a gun is detected, advanced cloud AI instantly transmits the footage to the Eagle Eye Cloud for analysis by a large scale AI model, providing accuracy and reducing the risk of false alarms. Human review staffed by trained professionals will confirm that a weapon is present and execute the school’s emergency response.

School shootings continue to occur regularly across the United States. In 2024 alone, there were 56 school shooting incidents. The continued frequency of violent incidents has prompted many school districts to invest in security and prevention measures.

“Gun detection that is AI-powered, triple-verified, camera agnostic, and able to work in tandem with other security systems is a game-changer. It’s a layered approach to security, and I think it is what every university should be doing,” says H.E. Jenkins, Chief of Police at St. Thomas University, Houston.

Matthew Schwandt, Director of Operations at Valor School in Austin, adds: “We want kids to be able to be kids. And students and faculty should be able to focus on learning without having to be distracted by security. We really try to keep security as unobtrusive as possible. Eagle Eye Gun Detection is an additional defensive layer to speed up response, and mitigate and prevent a potentially dangerous situation before it escalates.”
