Anthropic hires Sofia Wilson to support K-12 AI expansion in US schools
Anthropic has appointed Sofia Wilson to support its US K-12 education initiatives, as the company increases its focus on deploying AI tools in schools and education systems.
Wilson announced the move in a LinkedIn post, where she said: “This week I joined Anthropic to support our US K-12 education initiatives. Our goal is to ensure every kid has access to a world-class education, regardless of zip code.”
She joins Anthropic’s Beneficial Deployments team, where she will work on expanding access to AI in education and supporting implementation across schools, educators, and partners. The move signals continued activity from AI providers in positioning their tools within formal education settings, particularly in the US K-12 sector.
Experience across classrooms, policy, and edtech
Wilson brings a mix of teaching, research, and EdTech experience to the role. She is currently a PhD candidate at Stanford University, where her research focuses on how policy, programs, and place influence educational opportunity, including the impact of AI in schools and early childhood outcomes.
Her previous roles include Director of Customer Success at Newsela, where she worked with school districts and led enterprise-level support across large-scale deployments. She has also held positions focused on early learning and education policy, including work with Start Early and the Colorado Education Initiative.
This background positions her at the intersection of classroom practice, district-level implementation, and education research, areas that are becoming increasingly relevant as AI tools move from pilot programs into broader school use.
AI providers deepen engagement with K-12 systems
Anthropic’s expansion of its education team reflects wider activity across the sector, as AI companies move beyond product development and into implementation, policy alignment, and school partnerships.
In her post, Wilson continued: “I'm grateful to support responsible AI deployment in a sector I care deeply about, alongside the Beneficial Deployments team and the educators, schools, and partners working to ensure AI reaches the communities who need it most.”
She added: “As a former teacher, I know this work is in service of our students and educators moving mountains in classrooms every day.”
The focus on access and responsible deployment highlights ongoing questions around how AI tools are introduced into schools, including equity, teacher support, and alignment with existing education systems.
