Singapore’s National Institute of Education and AWS launch new Technology for Education Centre (TEC)
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the National Institute of Education and Nanyang Technological University (NIE), Singapore have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding to help accelerate educational innovation and advance educational technology.

AWS says the partnership will empower NIE staff and students to transform ideas into functioning prototypes, enhancing learning and addressing real-world challenges.
The partnership also aims to provide learning opportunities for Singapore’s educators to increase their competencies in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging digital tools. This includes the use of the AWS Skill Builder.
One key part of this is the launch of a new innovation hub on the NIE campus that will drive transformation in education. The Technology for Education Centre (TEC) aims to provide a collaborative hub for educators, students, researchers and staff to develop pedagogically-sound and ethically responsible technological solutions.
Professor Liu Woon Chia, Director at NIE, comments, “This strategic partnership signifies a shared commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to transform education in Singapore. Together, we are transforming how teachers teach, how students learn, and how research shapes real-world policy and practice.”
Elsie Tan, Country Manager, Worldwide Public Sector, Singapore at AWS, adds, "Educators shape our future workforce. By combining the NIE's expertise with AWS's AI technologies in experiential learning, we're supporting Singapore's Smart Nation vision to develop digitally - empowered teachers ready to address tomorrow's challenges with confidence and digital fluency."
Last year, AWS pledged up to $100 million in cloud credits over the next five years to support education organizations in underserved and underrepresented communities.
