SchoolStatus says it is now working with more than half of California school districts

SchoolStatus, a K-12 education platform focused on improving family engagement, attendance, and educator development, says it is now supporting more than 3.6 million students across 514 school districts in California.

SchoolStatus is now working with more than half of the school districts in California, as it says the region faces an urgent attendance crisis.

SchoolStatus analyzed attendance data from 122 California school districts and 800,000 students. It found an average 21 percent decrease in chronic absenteeism over three years in SchoolStatus partners compared to non-partner districts. These districts now report an average attendance rate of 93.45 percent, coming close to pre-pandemic rates.

Particular success stories include Roseville City School District, which has seen chronic absenteeism reduce by 43 percent in two years, with rates amongst English language learners dropping from 13 percent to just seven percent.

In Los Nietos School District, chronic absenteeism has fallen by 51 percent in two years, with rates amongst special education students decreasing from 29 percent to 17 percent. Chronic absenteeism amongst English language learners in the district fell from 16 percent to 12 percent in the same period.

Dr. Ramiro Rubalcaba, Superintendent at Los Nietos School District, comments: “SchoolStatus' support has been instrumental in helping us significantly improve our attendance rates and decrease chronic absenteeism. As a result of this partnership, our students are not only attending school more consistently, they are also showing remarkable growth academically and demonstrating greater engagement overall."

SchoolStatus says it is anticipating challenges and opportunities ahead of the 2025-2026 school year and remains committed to supporting educators and administrators across California’s K-12 schools. Its platform helps users take targeted action to improve attendance, strengthen family engagement and simplify workflows.

"What sets SchoolStatus apart isn't just our technology – it's our comprehensive partnership approach. We're providing California districts with a complete ecosystem: actionable data analytics, automated positive messaging that celebrates progress, and professional development that builds capacity within attendance teams," adds Dr. Kara Stern, Director of Education and Engagement at SchoolStatus.

"Instead of just flagging absences, we're helping educators strengthen family relationships through personalized, respectful communication that meets families where they are—ultimately getting students back in the classroom and keeping them there."

Earlier this year, SchoolStatus appointed Bill Okun as its new Chief Executive Officer, leading its next phase of growth in K-12 EdTech
