Non-profit Playlab AI and Amazon Future Engineer have announced a new partnership giving schools or districts a chance to learn more about AI.

Schools in the districts of Columbia, Atlanta, Maryland, Virginia, Seattle, Chicago and Nashville are invited to apply for a grant from Amazon.

Writing on LinkedIn, Yusuf Ahmad, Co-founder at Playlab AI says: “With Playlab AI and #AmazonFutureEngineer, your district can design its own plan to jumpstart AI learning and innovation!

“Whether it’s teacher AI workshops, student AI building, or creating custom AI apps to tackle instructional and operational challenges, Playlab will help your team create a partnership tailored to your goals and context.”

Amazon will cover 80 percent of the scheme costs for ten applicants, with schools or districts asked to contribute the remaining costs.

The Amazon AI Innovation Fund aims to support the White House Presidential AI Challenge by giving schools and districts a chance to design innovations.

Teams will build AI literacy with hands-on workshops and professional learning communities and help create custom AI tools to improve instruction. Students will also be tasked with designing AI-powered solutions to real world problems.

The partnership aims to build long-term sustainability by helping schools build internal AI expertise.

Accepted applicants will present their work at a regional showcase in summer 2026 and will be encouraged to submit their projects to the White House AI Challenge.

Earlier this year Playlab AI hosted a series of free virtual workshops aimed at helping educators explore the use of generative AI in teaching and learning.
