OpenAI to provide federal employees with education tools and training as part of new partnership with US government

OpenAI, the company behind popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has announced a new partnership with the General Services Administration in the US and will provide federal agencies with access to its platform for the next year at a cost of $1 per agency each year.

As part of the partnership, OpenAI will provide federal employees with education tools and training to ensure they feel comfortable using AI.

OpenAI has created a dedicated government user community and bespoke introductory training through its OpenAI Academy.

Federal employees will also be offered custom training platforms and guided learning, either directly or through partner-led sessions.

OpenAI says it will also be working with consulting firms Slalom and Boston Consulting Group.

OpenAI claims a recent pilot program conducted at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania saw employees using ChatGPT save an average of 95 minutes each day on routine tasks. A separate pilot in North Carolina reported that 85 percent of participants had a positive experience with the chatbot following a 12-week trial.

The partnership aims to ensure government workers can spend less time on “paperwork and red tape” and is part of US President Donald Trump’s AI Action Plan.

The Trump Administration recently issued guidance on the use of federal funds for AI in schools,  confirming that federal formula and discretionary grant funds can be used to integrate artificial intelligence into education.
