Curtin University names David Lock as new Chancellor, starting from April 2026

Curtin University in Perth, Australia, has appointed David Lock to the role of Chancellor, starting in April 2026.

Lock is currently Chair of Curtin’s Faculty of Business and Law Advisory Council and has previously served on the boards of Water Corporation, Interflour Holdings Group and Marine Stewardship Council.

“Curtin has been incredibly fortunate to benefit from strong, thoughtful and steady stewardship on its Council and we warmly welcome the guidance and perspective our new Chancellor will bring,” says Professor Harlene Hayne, Vice Chancellor at Curtin University. “David is a visionary leader whose energy and insight will help propel Curtin into its next phase. His deep understanding of industry, governance and the power of education will be invaluable as we continue to challenge convention and make a difference locally and globally.”

Lock adds: “Curtin is a place where bold ideas thrive and diverse communities come together to create real impact. I am thrilled to join Curtin’s Council, staff, students and alumni in shaping the next era of achievement and discovery.

Lock will replace Dr Vanessa Guthrie, who has welcomed her successor: “David brings strong commercial acumen and a deep appreciation for Curtin’s role in driving opportunity and impact. His steady, pragmatic leadership style will serve the University exceptionally well,” she comments.

“It has been a profound privilege to serve as Chancellor and to support Curtin’s success over the past years and I know the University is in very capable hands as it embarks on its next chapter.”
