Canva rolls out 3D design tools powered by AI to expand creative capabilities
The new feature, developed by Canva’s Prague team, enables users to design and customize 3D graphics directly within the platform.
Canva has launched a suite of 3D design tools that allow users to create and manipulate 3D graphics inside its design platform. The release was announced in a LinkedIn post by Andrew Nekvinda, Head of 3D and Photo AI at Canva, who said the new capability had been in development at the company’s Prague office for the past year.
Headquartered in Sydney, Canva provides an online design and collaboration platform used by more than 260 million people globally. The update extends Canva’s growing portfolio of creative tools, which includes AI-generated content, photo editing, and video design features.
AI-driven tools simplify 3D creation
The new 3D features include AI-powered content generation, a library of customizable 3D elements, and ready-made templates designed to help users add depth and realism to visual projects. The functionality is available directly within the Canva Editor under the “3D” search category.
Nekvinda said the goal was to make advanced 3D design accessible to non-specialists. “3D design has always been complex and hard to learn — but we’re changing that,” he wrote.
He added that the development required integrating 3D technology into a traditionally 2D platform. “Bringing 3D into a 2D platform has been a fun and unique challenge, and a huge shoutout to our team for pouring so much passion and care into making it happen. You can try it right now — just search ‘3D’ in Canva.”
The announcement received public recognition from Canva’s co-founders. Melanie Perkins, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, commented: “It's so incredibly cool Andrew Nekvinda!! Huge congrats to you and the team that brought this to life.”Cliff Obrecht, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, added: “so so cool!!!”
