UK Department for Education releases AI training and support materials for schools and colleges
Developed by Chiltern Learning Trust and the Chartered College of Teaching, the free materials aim to build staff confidence in the safe and effective use of AI.
The UK Department for Education has published free training and guidance materials to help schools and colleges use AI safely, effectively, and ethically.
Developed by Chiltern Learning Trust, a multi-academy trust providing school improvement support, in partnership with the Chartered College of Teaching, the professional body for teachers and school leaders, the resources are designed for teachers, leaders, and other education staff.
The materials include activity-focused slides, video presentations with transcripts, summaries, reflective planning templates, and multiple-choice questions to consolidate learning. They can be adapted for individual or group use and tailored to different levels of AI experience. Module 3, focused on safety, is recommended for all staff regardless of prior knowledge.
Certification linked to Chartered Teacher Status
Teachers and leaders who complete the training can take a free multiple-choice certified assessment provided by the Chartered College of Teaching. Passing the assessment awards five credits toward Chartered Teacher Status and provides formal recognition of understanding AI in education.
The assessment covers:
Understanding AI in education
Interacting with generative AI
Developing safe use of generative AI
Use cases of AI in education
A free online journal and case studies have also been provided to show how schools are already using AI tools in practice.
The resources aim to help staff understand both the potential benefits and the risks associated with AI in classrooms and administrative processes.
Dr Cat Scutt, Deputy CEO for Education and Research at the Chartered College of Teaching, says, “AI has huge potential in education, but it also comes with huge risks. The only way to address the risks and maximise the opportunities is for the education workforce to be fully confident and competent in safe and effective use of AI. These materials are vital to helping provide the training, research, support and examples of practice that early years settings, schools and colleges need to develop their staff members’ expertise.”
RTIH AI in Retail Awards
Our sister title, RTIH, organiser of the industry leading RTIH Innovation Awards, proudly brings you the first edition of the RTIH AI in Retail Awards, which is now open for entries.
As we witness a digital transformation revolution across all channels, AI tools are reshaping the omnichannel game, from personalising customer experiences to optimising inventory, uncovering insights into consumer behaviour, and enhancing the human element of retailers' businesses.
With 2025 set to be the year when AI and especially gen AI shake off the ‘heavily hyped’ tag and become embedded in retail business processes, our newly launched awards celebrate global technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and the resulting benefits for retailers, shoppers and employees.
Our 2025 winners will be those companies who not only recognise the potential of AI, but also make it usable in everyday work - resulting in more efficiency and innovation in all areas.
Winners will be announced at an evening event at The Barbican in Central London on Wednesday, 3rd September.
