Language learning startup Sylvi has introduced a new feature allowing users to generate personalized lesson plans directly within the app.

The update was announced in a LinkedIn post by founder Tom Standen, who attributed the change to ongoing feedback from users.

Sylvi, which raised £350,000 earlier this year in a super angel round, uses AI to support conversational language practice.

The app focuses on helping users build practical speaking skills through realistic dialogue rather than isolated vocabulary memorization.

Users now set learning intent and topic preferences

The new feature allows users to input their reasons for learning a language and select personal interests. Based on these inputs, the app generates a tailored lesson plan in under a minute.

Standen wrote: “Users can now tell Sylvi their 'why' for learning a language as well as what interests them the most and receive a fully personalised lesson plan in under a minute.”

He emphasized that the addition was not a planned roadmap item, but rather a response to direct community input.

“This wasn’t a top-down decision. It grew from chats with the people at the heart of our app: our community,” he said.

Feedback loop continues to inform development

According to the post, 85 percent of users have responded positively to the new lessons, though Sylvi’s team acknowledged that not all feedback has been favorable.

“To the 3% who weren’t quite happy: your feedback is helping us improve even more,” Standen wrote, referencing one particularly critical app store review that prompted further internal discussion.

The update reflects a broader strategy of iterative development through user engagement. As Standen put it: “Every lesson you take, every piece of feedback you share, every suggestion you make continues to shape what Sylvi becomes.”
