Ohio State University has shared plans to hire 100 new tenure-track faculty with AI skills over the next five years as it puts AI at the forefront of its priorities.

New faculty will join one of three AI cohorts: Foundational AI, Applied AI, and Responsible AI.

Searches for the new faculty are already underway, with the first new hires expected to join the university in autumn 2026. The new team will complement existing AI expertise at Ohio State, with around 300 scholars already working on AI innovation within their respective fields.

“Ohio State is committed to pursuing academic excellence while harnessing AI in classrooms, studios and research labs,” explains Ravi V. Bellamkonda, Executive Vice President and Provost at Ohio State.

“AI is reshaping both education and research, and Ohio State stands at the forefront of this evolution. Our exceptional faculty and students are exploring AI’s exponential possibilities across diverse disciplines, driving innovation, advancing impactful research and preparing to lead in a rapidly changing world.”

The news follows shortly after Ohio State launched the AI(X) Hub, which supports faculty, researchers, and students in using AI for public good. The 100 new faculty will become key members of the hub, supporting collaborative projects across disciplines.
