‘Lack of essential skills’ prevents 11 million adults from entering modern jobs, digital skills expert warns
More than 11 million UK adults lack the essential digital skills needed for modern work, the founder of digital skills app The Coders Guild has warned as he calls for basic training in AI, automation and remote collaboration.

In the UK, more than half (53 percent) of adults do not have the essential digital skills for work and 62 percent of those considering a career change are not sure what steps to take, according to research conducted by Lloyds and Aviva.
In response, The Coders Guild, a digital skills training provider, is launching 6-week summer bootcamps to help UK adults overcome barriers to modern careers.
Designed for career changers, returners and job seekers, the program offers supported paths into in-demand careers. Places on the summer bootcamp are available fully funded in West Yorkshire.
The bootcamp gives participants a chance to complete real-world tasks and case studies, giving them examples to highlight at interviews and a chance to build confidence in using AI tools, basic automation and agile working tools.
Crispin Reed, CEO and Founder at The Coders Guild, says: “By focusing on the essential digital skills required for today’s workplace - including AI, automation, Kanban, remote collaboration tools like Slack, and more - participants gain the confidence and competence needed to succeed in any modern job.
“Project management skills are in demand across almost every industry, from construction to care work to retail and technology. By combining project management skills with training in AI and digital tools, learners will have a genuine edge that sets them up for life.
“These are the skills that make a difference - not just in getting a job, but making a real impact when they get there.”
