Google is offering college students, aged 18 and above, in the US, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil a free 12 month Google AI Pro plan.

The Google AI Pro plan includes access to the company’s AI tools including expanded access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, Deep Research, NotebookLM, Veo 3, and Jules.

Google is also rolling out education-specific tools on consumer and Workspace accounts, hoping to support critical thinking, increase student understanding, and make study more efficient.

Gemini now offers “guided learning” which aims to help students with deeper understanding instead of providing quick, immediate answers to their questions.

The tool now also includes high-quality visuals, diagrams and YouTube videos in response, making it easier to respond to questions on complex topics. The images will be woven into responses to make the information clearer.

Gemini can also instantly create flashcards and study guides based on quiz results or class materials, providing an easy way to reinforce learning.

Google has also announced plans to fund more than $1 billion worth of AI education and education initiatives in the US. It has also launched the Google for AI Accelerator, offering free AI training, Google Career Certificates and advanced AI tools to all college students it the US.

Google says more than 100 universities have already signed up to the scheme, with all accredited non-profit colleges and universities in the US invited to join the scheme.
