FICO and First Tee Ontario to host free youth financial empowerment event ahead of the RBC Canadian Open

Analytics software provider FICO and First Tee, a nonprofit organization aiming to improve children's life skills through golf lessons, will host a free Score a Better Future Fundamentals event for teens ahead of the RBC Canadian Open golf tournament.

The event is designed to help teenagers better prepare for their financial futures by helping them understand how credit works and the role of their FICO Score in using their savings to pay for a home, car or education.

Following the workshops, students will be invited to participate in First Tee golf programming and will be offered a chance to take a photograph with the RBC Canadian Open trophy.

Financial literacy and a good golf game both require the same foundations: practice and discipline,” explains Amber Aquin, Chapter Head of First Tee Ontario. “This collaboration with FICO during the RBC Canadian Open gives youth the opportunity to build both golf skills and the money smarts to excel on and off life’s most important courses.”

“At FICO, we’re passionate about helping educate young people to take control of their financial futures,” adds Jenelle Dito, Vice President of Consumer Empowerment Programs and Partnerships at FICO. “Working with First Tee – Ontario and the Boys & Girls Club of Caledon and Brampton allows us to bring these important lessons to life in a fun, engaging way, just as the RBC Canadian Open begins.”

Earlier this year, Metro Credit Union teamed up with Greenlight to offer its members free access to a suite of financial education tools for children and teens. Through the collaboration, families will be able to access the Greenlight app and debit card, tools designed to introduce practical money management under parental supervision.
