Dartmouth College claims to be first Ivy League university to offer campus-wide access to Claude AI
Dartmouth College has announced a new partnership with Anthropic and AWS, offering its students, faculty and staff access to Claude for Education and Amazon Bedrock.
Dartmouth claims to be the first Ivy League university to offer AI at an institutional scale, offering access to secure models created specifically for use in educational contexts.
“This is more than a collaboration,” comments Dartmouth’s President Sian Leah Beilock. “It’s the next chapter in a story that began at Dartmouth 70 years ago, as we ensure that the institution where the term AI was first introduced to the world will also show the world how to use it wisely in pursuit of knowledge.”
Anthropic will also support Dartmouth’s Center for Career Design, where staff are already using AI to support students with personalized career pathways. The team will lead ongoing and new initiatives including:
student access to AI-enhanced career coaching using Claude
connecting students with applied learning events through AWS Skills to Jobs
Collaborating on student-led programs to create a culture of innovation and support ethical AI use on campus
giving Dartmouth students access to learning and networking events hosted by Anthropic
“We’re thrilled to partner with Dartmouth and AWS on this. Dartmouth has always understood that technology is most powerful when it’s paired with human wisdom and critical thinking—and that’s exactly how we built Claude,” adds Daniela Amodei, President and Co-founder at Anthropic.
“Their focus on AI fluency, teaching students to engage deeply with hard problems rather than bypass them, is so aligned with our mission. This is the kind of partnership that makes me genuinely excited about AI’s role in education.”
Dartmouth’s schools are also helping to shape the future of AI, as its Center for Precision Health and AI is building tools to improve diagnostic accuracy and treatments, and its Center for Technology and Behavioral Health works on AI-powered tools to support addiction and mental health disorders.
Anthropic and AWS will provide Dartmouth with AI-enhanced learning and research tools, integration of AI capabilities within existing campus platforms, and opportunities to engage with cutting-edge technologies through the partnership.
