Education platform BrainPOP has named Lorin Thomas-Tavel as its new Chief Executive Officer, as it looks to its next phase of growth.

Previously employed as Managing Director at Virtual Schools at education giant Pearson, Thomas-Tavel brings more than two decades of experience in education technology.

At Virtual Schools, Thomas-Tavel oversaw one of the U.S.’s largest online K-12 school networks. She also previously served in leadership roles at online platform 2U, where she led the company’s bootcamp division as Managing Director. She has also served in various senior roles at tutoring specialist Kaplan.

Thomas-Tavel will now be tasked with expanding BrainPOP’s capabilities, expanding school and district partnerships and leading strategy to deliver measurable results through student-centred technology.

"Thomas-Tavel is a visionary leader with a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities in K-12 education," comments Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, Chair of the Board at BrainPOP. "As we enter our next chapter of growth and innovation, we are confident that her experience and passion for driving reach and impact in education will elevate our mission to empower educators and students across the country."

"I am honored to join BrainPOP at such an important time for educators and students," adds Thomas-Tavel. "District leaders and schools are navigating complex demands, and I believe technology should support – not complicate – the work of teaching and learning. I look forward to building on BrainPOP's strong foundation and helping to shape what comes next."
