Efekta appoints former Microsoft and Amazon technology leader Matt Fisher as CTO

Fisher will lead technology strategy and product innovation for Efekta’s agentic teaching platform, which works with more than 4.5 million active students.

Matt Fisher has joined Efekta Education as Chief Technology Officer

Matt Fisher will take charge of Efekta Education’s technology strategy and product innovation after joining the AI learning software company as Chief Technology Officer.

His remit covers the continued development of Efekta’s agentic teaching and learning platform, which is provided to governments, public and private school systems, publishers and global companies.

Fisher will also work with the leadership team to strengthen the company’s AI capabilities, with a focus on supporting teachers and learners.

The appointment centers on the continued development of Efekta’s existing platform and broader technology strategy. Fisher brings nearly 20 years of experience across Microsoft, Amazon, identity management platform Auth0, Daydream and interactive video company Adventr.

During his time at Microsoft, he co-created Codie, a multilingual AI assistant designed to give aspiring developers access to coding knowledge in their native language. Fisher has also maintained a role in higher education as an adjunct faculty member in Brown University’s engineering department.

Fisher takes responsibility for Efekta’s AI strategy

Fisher connects the move to his previous work on widening access to learning through technology: “What attracted me to Efekta is its clear vision for using AI to enhance learning, support teachers and make high-quality education accessible to more people around the world. I'm excited to join the team as we continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible in personalised learning.”

Efekta CEO Stephen Hodges identifies Fisher’s combined technical, product and leadership experience as central to the appointment, describing it as “a rare combination of deep technical expertise, product vision and leadership experience.”

The appointment follows two wins for Efekta at the 2026 ETIH Innovation Awards. The company received Best Global Impact and was named EdTech Company of the Year (Global).

Fisher also joins during an expansion of Efekta’s senior leadership. Earlier in 2026, the company appointed former UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education and former Italian Minister of Education Stefania Giannini as President of Government Relations and Research.

Giannini’s appointment followed the creation of an advisory board chaired by José Manuel Barroso and comprising figures from education, policy and technology.
