CPD Passport sets out verified credential system to combat rising CPD fraud and lost records

The UK-based CPD Register has introduced CPD Passport, a platform providing verified, portable CPD records and time-limited credential sharing for professionals across regulated and compliance-focused sectors.

The CPD Register, an independent UK certification body for CPD Accreditation Organizations, has introduced CPD Passport, a cloud-based system designed to give professionals a single, verified record of their continuing professional development.

The CPD Register oversees accreditation standards across the UK’s CPD ecosystem and maintains a directory of verified providers and training activities.

CPD Passport connects directly to the certification body’s database, allowing automatic verification of accredited training. The system is positioned as a response to rising cases of fake certificates, lost documentation during career changes, and fragmented provider-dependent tracking tools.

Chris Aitken, Founder and Director of The CPD Register, says, "CPD Passport fundamentally changes the equation. For the first time, professionals have a platform that doesn't just store certificates—it automatically verifies them through our certification body database. When someone shares their CPD Passport with an employer or client, the recipient knows those credentials are genuine. That changes everything."

Verification, secure links, and expiry reminders

The platform verifies CPD through a three-tier process covering the certification body, the accredited organization, and the individual training activity. The CPD Register states this structure addresses long-standing trust concerns around unverified PDFs and certificates purchased online.

Professionals can share records using time-limited links, giving employers, clients, regulators, or insurers controlled access for credential checks. CPD Passport also issues renewal reminders for qualifications with expiry requirements, supporting compliance in areas such as first aid, health and safety, and insurance-linked training.

Focus on regulated sectors and lifetime record ownership

The system is designed to serve professionals across sectors but highlights particular relevance for healthcare, beauty and wellness, skilled trades, education, financial services, and legal professions. Students and early-career professionals can also use the platform to consolidate training records that would otherwise be tied to individual employers or providers.

CPD Passport offers a free tier with lifetime storage, automatic verification, and secure sharing, with paid features available for users who need additional capacity.

Aitken says, "As a certification body, we've seen firsthand the challenges created by unverified credentials and fragmented record-keeping. CPD Passport leverages our certification infrastructure to solve these problems at scale. It's not just better technology—it's a fundamentally different approach to professional credibility."
