Turnitin launches a new writing solution aiming to support responsible use of AI in classrooms

Turnitin, which provides solutions designed to protect academic integrity, has launched Turnitin Clarity, a new writing solution designed to support responsible use of AI in educational settings.

Acting as a bridge between educators and students, Turnitin Clarity provides students with feedback on writing assessments through an optional AI assistant while also giving educators data and insight into how students construct their writing.

“Turnitin Clarity is our response to a defining challenge in education, how to uphold academic integrity and embrace the responsible use of AI,” explains Annie Chechitelli, Chief Product Officer at Turnitin. “In an AI-powered world, we need more than detection, we need solutions that promote learning, invite dialogue, and equip educators and students to use AI ethically and confidently. That’s why we built Turnitin Clarity.”

Turnitin Clarity includes AI writing detection, revision timelines and a breakdown of typed vs pasted text. It also provides educators with a summary of any AI chat history.

Turnitin claims the technology will allow educators to transform instances of plagiarism and AI misuse into valuable learning experiences.

“As development and adoption of AI throughout society grows, we must provide the education sector with the necessary capabilities to understand and leverage these solutions,” James Thorley, Regional Vice President, APAC & EMEA at Turnitin adds.

“Turnitin Clarity creates a flexible, transparent, and controlled environment for students to use AI without it detracting from their learning. It also empowers educators to better evaluate integrity and appropriate AI-use, while improving engagement with students. The resulting understanding of the responsible use of AI will equip both educators and students with the confidence to maintain integrity, while cultivating meaningful and practical learning outcomes.”

RTIH AI in Retail Awards

Our sister title, RTIH, organiser of the industry leading RTIH Innovation Awards, proudly brings you the first edition of the RTIH AI in Retail Awards, which is now open for entries.

As we witness a digital transformation revolution across all channels, AI tools are reshaping the omnichannel game, from personalising customer experiences to optimising inventory, uncovering insights into consumer behaviour, and enhancing the human element of retailers' businesses.

With 2025 set to be the year when AI and especially gen AI shake off the ‘heavily hyped’ tag and become embedded in retail business processes, our newly launched awards celebrate global technology innovation in a fast moving omnichannel world and the resulting benefits for retailers, shoppers and employees.

Our 2025 winners will be those companies who not only recognise the potential of AI, but also make it usable in everyday work - resulting in more efficiency and innovation in all areas.

Winners will be announced at an evening event at The Barbican in Central London on Wednesday, 3rd September.
