Loblaw Companies stumps up funding as Centre de Simulation Pharmaprix goes live at University of Montreal
Candaian retailer Loblaw Companies reports the opening of a Centre de Simulation Pharmaprix, situated at the Université de Montréal.
In a LinkedIn post, David Markwell, Interim President - Shoppers Drug Mart, EVP and Chief Technology and Analytics Officer at Loblaw Companies, said: “This is more than the unveiling of a remarkable facility - it is a tangible step toward a future where community pharmacists are fully integrated members of the primary care team, providing Québécois with timely, high quality care right in their own communities.”
He added: “This is the focus of Pharmaprix’s vision on pharmacy care - a vision we are bringing to life every day through our Pharmacy Care Clinics now operating in more than 34 locations here in Quebec and 200 across the country in Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix, where pharmacists are empowered to deliver assessments, prescribe for minor ailments, and manage chronic conditions in collaboration with other providers.”
”On behalf of Pharmaprix, I want to thank Dean de Denus, the faculty leadership, and everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. Our $3 million gift agreement with the university reflects a shared commitment: to advance pharmacy education, drive innovation, and ensure the profession is ready to meet the evolving needs of patients and the healthcare system.”
He concluded: “This partnership is about building sustainability and resiliency in health care. By creating an environment where students can develop the clinical, communication, and decision‑making skills they will need to work alongside physicians, nurses, and other health professionals in the medical neighbourhood, graduating pharmacists will be well prepared to deliver care that is accessible, coordinated, and centred on the patient.”
